About Schneider and Altevogt Families
The earliest known member of this Schneider family is Philip born 14 December 1814 in Germany and died 28 September 1894 in Ripley County, Indiana. Philip and his wife Louise nee Boss had 14 children. I have found this family in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio; Campbell County, Kentucky and in 1860 had their youngest child in Ripley Coounty, Indiana. The 1880 Federal Census of Ripley County, Indiana shows them with 2 adopted children - Anna and Henry Sunman. Nothing is known at this time about the Boss family.

Some of the families which connect with the Schneiders are Wegert, Altevogt and Wendel/Windell.

The Wegert family is supposed to be from Lengenfeld near Auerbach in Saxony, Germany, but I have unable to find records in Germany for this family.

I have traced the Altevogt family back to the late 1700's in the Westphalia region of Germany in the villages of Leeden, Ladbergen and Wester.

Some of the members of the Wendel/Windell family ended up in Harrison County, Indiana after leaving the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
